PCT 2023: Day 5
Trail Miles: 19
Elevation +: 1402
Elevation -: 2584
Packed up and started hiking as I drank my morning shake, protein powder and instant coffee. Made it to the spring right before the road crossing to Montezuma Market. I was there a little after 8am and the shuttle didn’t start until 9:15am. Hung out and chatted with the New Zealand guy, Justin from Austin and the RN from Idaho.
Walked to the road for the shuttle. Rode with Justin and 2 other guys I saw at the third gate cache yesterday. Wonder Woman drove us to the market. She works at the market. 3 hikers were already there. Laundry, shower, lunch, resupply and recharged devices. It was glorious.
Headed back to the trailhead. Hiked with Justin all the way to Warner Springs. He was a former gov’t employee and recent retiree. Stopped at Eagle Rock for photos and saw a rain cloud in the distance but we were spared. Took a break at the Warner Springs Community Center.
Said bye to Justin and hiked out. Made it to Agua Caliente Creek and as it was just getting dark found a campsite next to the New Zealand guy and another hiker in her tent. Ate. Chores. Sleep.
Thinking of ending my hike at either PVC or Cabazon. Only 37 miles to PVC.
